Habakkuk’s Vision

The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

— Habakkuk 1:1

Throughout the study, we will refer to Habakkuk as the prophet which did see. We saw how his name means “to embrace.” Habakkuk learns to see through spiritual sight and embrace the plan of God. This vision is still available to people today. There isn’t a need to foretell events like Habakkuk did, because there is no new revelation needed for the people of God. We have 66 books of profound revelation already given to us. But we still need spiritual sight. Habakkuk was able to see the plan of God and embrace it. Habakkuk’s vision should be our vision as well. Too many Born-Again Believers live their spiritual lives without any spiritual vision. Did you realize that if you really want Him to, the Holy Spirit can open up His Word to you? He can give you wisdom. He can give you discernment. It’s available to us.

Proverbs 29:18 says “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Solomon contrasts the lack of vision with the those that keep the Law of God. The Law of God gave the people direction and insight. I’m afraid that churches across the world have become dry deserts with no vision. How many Born-Again Believers have a burning desire to know more from God? How many churches are striving to follow God’s plan for the church?

Notice something very interesting in 1 Samuel 3:1. “And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.” No open vision. How sad are those words?! The Word of the Lord was precious, which in this context implies that not too many people were in possession of it.

We need open vision in our hearts, our churches, and our country.

YOU can have wisdom. YOU can have discernment. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Do we really want this though? Our churches need open vision as well! If churches really desire it, the Lord can allow them to discern false teachers. If churches really want it, they’ll be able to discern the Lord’s direction.

So. How badly do you want this open vision? Is the Word of God lacking in your life as was in the times of Eli? A good first step toward spiritual sight in the life of a Born-Again Believer is to fill the heart with Word of God.
